Summer is here and I love taking my kids to the beach. I’m so excited to share my top 5 beach activities. The beach has always been one of my favorite places. I’ll never forget the first time I surprised my daughter with a trip to the beach. I can still see her face filled with so much joy and excitement when we arrived. As a former teacher, I love finding ways for my kids to learn and have fun at the same time. The beach is a great place for kids to learn through hands-on activities and experiences. So here are 5 fun beach activities for kids.
1. Collecting Seashells
My daughter has always loved collecting seashells everytime we go to the beach. Bring a couple mesh bags for your kids to collect seashells while at the beach. I typically like to take my kids on a scavenger hunt to see how many unique seashells and pebbles we can find. You can also have your kids sort the seashells by color, size, and/or shape.
2. Beach Soccer/Kickball
Allowing your kids to be active at the beach is so important. There’s so much space at the beach for your kids to run, jump, climb, and play games. Bring a soccer ball or kick ball and your kids can enjoy a game with their siblings or friends.
3. Tic-Tac-Toe & Hopscotch
Kids love drawing in the sand because they can draw as big as they want. My daughter loves drawing shapes, numbers, and words in the sand. Tic-Tac-Toe and Hopscotch are easy games to draw in the sand and then play.
4. Sensory Play
There are so many benefits of sensory play for kids. Sensory play helps your kids understand how the world works. Encourage your kids to go on a treasure hunt and collect sand, seashells, pebbles, and rocks in their buckets. Then they can play with everything under a beach umbrella.
5. Meditation
Of course, most kids are not thinking about being calm while at the beach. However, studies have shown that the ocean has calming effects on kids. During snack breaks or lunch breaks you can encourage your kids to take deep breaths and/or listen to the sounds of the ocean. Mindfulness is a skill that all kids should know and understand. Here’s one of my favorite kids yoga videos perfect for the beach HERE.
