Creating a good bedtime routine is one of the best things you can do for yourself. I’m so excited to share some tips that can help improve your bedtime routine. I used to consider myself a night owl. I would stay up way too late doing work and watching tv. However, I’ve made some changes and started prioritizing sleep. These simple changes in my bedtime routine have helped me feel more refreshed when I wake up. So, here are 7 tips that can help you improve your bedtime routine.
1.Diffuse Lavender Essential Oil
Lavender essential oil is one of my favorites. There are so many benefits to using lavender essential oils especially during your bedtime routine. Lavender essential oil promotes relaxation and relieves anxiety, stress, and allergies. You can use a diffuser in your bedroom and add a couple drops of lavender essential oils. Or you can spray some lavender essential oil on your bedsheets and pillow. I’ve been using essential oils for several years. My tip is for you to get a good quality lavender essential oil that’s 100% pure lavender.
2.Invest in a Quality Mattress and Pillow
I never realized the impact your mattress and pillows can have on your sleep quality. I invested in a good mattress and pillows and I instantly saw the difference. I have been using the Lull mattress and pillows. I love how the mattress and pillow is a premium memory foam. I also believe that a good sheet set for your bed is important. Check out Lull for more details.
3.Journal your Thoughts
Journaling can help reduce stress. Nighttime can be very stressful for people because that’s when their mind is thinking about everything that happened throughout the day, your to-do list, and so much more. So journaling is a way to put everything down on paper instead of in your mind. There are several different ways to journal. You can go for a more guided journaling approach. This is where you have a specific journal prompt and you write down your thoughts. Or you can take 5-10 minutes to do a brain dump of everything that’s on your mind. Find a journaling approach that works best for you.
4.Take a Warm Shower or Bath
One of the most relaxing things is to take a warm shower or bath after a long day. I have improved my bath and shower by adding my favorite body wash, a eucalyptus plant in my shower, dimming the lights, and diffusing lavender essential oil. Relaxing my mind and body is important to me which is why I’m very intentional about these things.
5.Turn Your Phone on Airplane Mode
Cellphones pump out a lot of electromagnetic radiation. So having your phone on and beside you at night time can mess up your sleep cycles. Recently, I did a little test where I documented how I felt when I woke up in the morning with my cell phone on airplane mode. Then I documented how I felt when my cellphone was not on airplane mode. I noticed that I slept better and I felt happy and refreshed when I woke up with my phone on airplane mode at night.
6.Drink a Calming Tea
I’m very mindful about what I drink at nighttime. Drinking a calming tea has so many benefits. Some of my favorite teas are Yogi Soothing Caramel Bedtime Tea, Yogi Honey Lavender Stress Tea, and Tazo Calm Camomile Tea. I also like to add a little honey to my tea for extra flavor.
7.Create a Bedtime Playlist
Music has a way of helping improve anyone’s mood. I have created a bedtime playlist with some of my favorite calming songs. I will typically play my playlist on my Alexa while I’m finishing up my night time tasks and my bedtime routine.
I hope these tips to improve your bedtime routine were helpful! The month of March is Sleep Awareness Month so I encourage you to start prioritizing your sleep. Create a bedtime routine that works for you. Also, check out 10 Morning Routine Habits.
