Iām so excited to share with you a summer schedule for kids. Summer break is all about lazy days, family vacations/adventures, and creating fun memories. As a former teacher, I understand the importance of schedules and routines for kids. Most kids thrive with structure within their days. Having a themed schedule throughout the summer has allowed me to have a lot of fun with my kids and create some great memories. I also love that with a themed schedule there is a lot of flexibility. This themed summer schedule guides me with coming up with activities for my kids each day. So, here is my themed summer schedule for kids.
ā¢Make it Monday (DIY, Painting, Crafting)
From crafting to sewing to baking to painting! Monday is a great day to focus on having your kids create! I love buying most of my arts and crafts from Target, Dollar Tree, and Michaels. I also like for my Mondays to be slower and allow for us to get back into the groove of the week. So doing arts and crafts are fun activities that don’t require a lot of work.
Mom Tip: Create an arts and crafts bin to help organize all your supplies throughout the summer. Here is the arts and crafts cart that I use. HERE. You can also organize all the arts and craft supplies in containers.
ā¢Thinking Tuesday (STEM, Reading, Worksheets)
Summer is a great time to relax and play, but kids also need to continue to learn and review! Print out free educational worksheets for your kids. Any of the worksheets and activities my kids do during Thinking Tuesday is more of a review of learning. Itās always activities that my kids can do independently with minimal help from me. Also, have your kidās read for at least 30 minutes. If your kids are not reading you can check out VOOKS which has an entire library of fun books with read-aloud narration. VOOKS also offers free educational worksheets. Check out my blog post My Favorite Educational Apps for Kids.
ā¢Water Play Wednesday (Splash Pads, Sprinklers, Pool):
Water Play Wednesday is perfect for those extra hot days during summer break. I love taking my kids to splash pads. We have several at our local outdoor malls. If you have an outdoor mall check to see if they have splash pads. I also recently stocked up on simple water play toys for my kids to play in our backyard. Check out my Pinterest for some of my favorite water play toys from Target HERE
ā¢Take a Trip Thursday (Museums, Zoos, Parks)
I love creating a list of budget-friendly local activities. I also create a budget at the beginning of summer on how much I want to spend on trips/activities. Check out my blog post on Stress Free Summer Bucket List.
ā¢Fun Day Friday (Memory Making)
Fun Friday is simply an activity that you do with your kids thatās all about memory making. It doesnāt have to be expensive. For example, my daughter and I love going to new ice cream shops every Friday. We try out new ice creams and enjoy our time together.
ā¢Super Saturday (Family Focused Day)
I like to focus Saturday on family. Take time to unplug from technology and social media and focus on planning fun trips and activities with your family. One of my favorite things to do with my family on Saturday is practice gratitude. Check out my blog post on 3 Ways to Teach Gratitude to Kids.
ā¢Self Care Sunday (Journaling, Skin Care, Fitness):
Make sure your kids understand and know that Self-Care Sunday isnāt just for mommy! Take time to help your kids practice taking care of themselves. For example, create a list of self care tasks you want your kids to work on throughout the summer such as exercising, eating healthy, doing yoga, etc. Here’s one of my favorite kids yoga YouTube channels Cosmic Kids Yoga.
I hope this themed summer schedule for kids was helpful! As youāre creating your summer schedule, always remember to do what works for your family!
XO,
Ashley
