The perfect stay at home mom job does exist. You just have to find what works for you and what makes you happy!
When I first became a stay at home mom, I knew I wanted to find a way to make some extra money. I just didn’t know what I was going to do. There wasn’t a lot of information online that gave me options for stay at home mom jobs. I wanted a flexible job that would allow me to spend time with my kids. I also wanted a job that I was passionate about and would bring me some happiness. So, I created a list of things that I loved and things that I wanted within a job that I could do from home. So if you are looking for a way to make extra money while you’re a stay at home mom, I suggest you create a list of things you love and would love in a job.
Here’s what I know to be true. You can make a lot of money doing whatever you’re passionate about. You just have to find the best way to package your product and sell it. For example, if you love doing yoga, here are a couple options for how to make money doing what you love. You can create an online course teaching others how to practice yoga, you can become a part time yoga instructor or you can sell yoga apparel. The options are endless. So here are some examples of ways you can make extra income while being a stay at home mom.
SAHM Job #1:
Blogger. A blogger is someone that writes articles on a particular niche. So if you’re interested in being a blogger and making money, you would need to start by picking a niche. Decide on a topic or subject that you want to write about. For example, I am a lifestyle and motherhood blogger. So I write about a variety of topics focused on my lifestyle and being a mom. Some bloggers are very specific and only write about one topic. For example some food bloggers have a variety of different articles on food. After you have established your blog, then you can begin to get paid by media outlets, ads on your blog, and sponsored content. Check out my blog post 8 Ways to Make Money as a Blogger.
SAHM Job #2:
Social Media Influencer. A social media influencer is someone that has established credibility with an audience on a social media platform. Instagram, Tik Tok, Youtube, and Twitter are some of the main social media platforms where you can make money from being an influencer. As a social media influencer, one of the main ways you make money is through sponsored content with brands. I’m a social media influencer and Instagram is my main platform. I love what I do because it allows me to share family content with my audience, make a good amount of money, and it’s very flexible. Check out my blog post Instagram Influencer: 10 Tips to Get Started.
SAHM Job #3:
Etsy Shop. You can create your own Etsy Shop and sell products. There are so many different products you can sell. I have friends that sell printed t-shirts, jewelry, handmade items, printables and the list goes on. Here’s a quick tip, go on Etsy and browse through what other people are selling. You might find a product that gives you an idea on what you can potentially sell.
SAHM Job #4:
Digital Products. Creating a digital product is a great way to make money as a stay at home mom. I love that once you create a digital product all you have to do after is focus on marketing and getting the word out about your digital products. You don’t have to focus on packaging and shipping products. Here’s some examples of digital product topics:
Recipes
Homeschool Lesson Plans
Fitness Plans
Self Care Resources
Seasonal Kid Craft Templates
Art and Designs
SAHM Job #5:
Online Courses. Do you specialize in something? I know many stay at home moms that were former teachers. Now they create online courses for educators. It’s not as difficult as it sounds and you don’t have to be an expert to create an online course. Courses are intended to help people with a particular topic. Teachable is a great platform to create online courses.
SAHM Job #6:
Virtual Assistant. A virtual assistant is someone that works remotely and provides administrative services to a person’s business. Some of these tasks include responding to emails, managing their social media platforms, scheduling appointments, scheduling and meetings. You can either work for someone that has a virtual assistant business or you can create your own virtual assistant business and have a couple clients. I also love that there are a variety to facebook groups that allow you to advertise your business.
SAHM Job #7:
Online Tutor/Teacher. There are so many online tutor positions that would be perfect for stay at home moms. I love the flexibility of an online tutor/teacher. Most of the time you don’t need a lot of experience to be a tutor. Here are a couple online tutor and teaching companies.
SAHM Job #8:
Freelance Writer. Do you enjoy writing? Well, you can get paid to write articles for blogs and/or magazines. As a blogger, I love freelance writing because I can write about topics that I love. Here is one of my published articles at Visit Williamsburg. Here is a list of websites where you can get paid to do freelance writing.
SAHM Job #9:
Childcare: If you’re a stay at home mom, and you enjoy watching, teaching and/or taking care of other children, then that can be your job. Growing up, my mom was a stay at home mom. I’m an only child so my mom decided to get paid to watch two more children. This can be a long term position that you decide with another family or you can do it periodically when needed.
SAHM Job #10:
Facebook Marketplace. So that isn’t exactly a job but you can definitely make some extra cash periodically. Kids grow out of toys, clothes, shoes, etc. so fast. You can easily sell old items or items you no longer use on Facebook Marketplace. Some other options are Once Upon a Child, Plato’s Closet, and Uptown Cheapskate. Right before the holidays, I like to sell items so I have extra cash for Christmas.
SAHM Job #11:
Remote Customer Service. This is a great option for a stay at home mom that doesn’t have her kids at home with her. Also, the hours of remote customer service jobs are more standard. However, this is a great option because you can potentially make consistent money and you are also at home while you do it. My suggestion is to google remote customer service positions and see what you find.
SAHM Job #12:
Photographer: Do you love taking photos? Being a photographer is a great way for a stay at home mom to make money. There are lots of free courses online for how to get started on becoming a photographer. It might take a small investment of a professional camera but then you can make a good amount of money and create your own schedule.
