It’s hard to believe that it’s already back to school time! There have been so many changes happening in the world and back to school time can be overwhelming. So, whether your child will be doing in-person learning, virtual learning, or homeschooling, staying organized will help reduce some of that stress. Let’s prepare to have a successful school year with all the necessary school supplies. Here’s my 2021-2022 back to school guide: school supplies checklist.
Basic Supplies
I like to get an early start on buying all the basic back to school supplies. Some of my favorite stores to shop for basic school supplies include Walmart, Target, and Dollar tree. I also opt for store brands instead of the well-known brands which can save a little money. If your child is doing in-person learning, make sure you get a set of basic supplies for school and a set of basic supplies for home. Also, another tip is to shop for your school supplies on Tax-Free week and buy extra basic supplies. You can store all the extra school supplies in a bin at your home. This will reduce some stress if your child runs out of pencils, glue, etc. Here is a checklist of the basic supplies:
- Back Pack
- Lunch bag
- Water Bottle
- Pencils
- Pencil Sharpener
- Pens
- Index Cards
- Erasers
- Highlighters
- Lined Paper
- Glue Sticks
- Folders (1 per subject)
- Binders (1 per subject)
- Rulers
- Notebooks
Arts and Craft Supplies
This is especially important for the younger kids. Some of these supplies might not be as necessary if your child is doing in-person learning. However, it’s always a great idea to have these art supplies at your home for a quick activity when your child is at home. Here is a checklist of all the arts and craft supplies:
- Crayons
- Color Pencils
- Mini Stapler
- Markers
- Washable Paint
- Apron
- Chalk
- Popsicle Sticks
- Table Cloth (to protect floor and table when doing art projects)
- Play Dough
- Colored Paper
- Paint Brushes
- Scissors
- Old Magazines and Newspapers
- Coloring Activity Books
- Stickers
- Tape
- Pom Poms
- Glitter Glue
Electronic Supplies
More than ever, there has been an increase in schools using laptops as a way of learning for in-person learning and of course virtual learning. If your child is doing virtual learning with a public or private school, the school might provide the laptop and other electronic supplies. I would recommend contacting the school to make sure the school will provide that for your child. Here is a checklist of electronic supplies:
- Headphones
- Laptop
- Laptop case
- Tablet
- Tablet Case
- USB Drive
- Mouse and Mouse Pad
First Aid Supplies
First aid supplies are going to be so important for this school year. So, whether your child is doing in-personal learning, virtual learning, or homeschooling, you are going to need those necessary supplies to make sure everyone is safe. Here is a checklist of first aid supplies:
- Face Masks (make sure they fit your child and they are comfortable for them)
- Hand sanitizer (travel size and regular size)
- Thermometer
- Multi vitamins (immune support)
- Safety Plan
- First Aid Kit
Filing and Organizing Supplies:
It’s going to be helpful if you are organized with their child’s academics throughout the school year. You are your child’s advocate throughout the school year so it’s always good to have a filing system in place to keep your child’s academic work. If you are doing virtual learning or homeschooling, your child’s academic filing system is going to be a little more extensive. Here is a checklist for filing and organizing supplies:
- Storage Bins (store extra school supplies)
- School Calendar
- Dry Erase Board
- White Board
- Daily/Weekly Wall Calendar (for school related events/activities)
- Folders
- Binders
- Printer
Extra Supplies:
- Reward Chart
- Treasure Box
- Outdoor Toys (virtual learning & homeschooling)
- Kids Desk and Chair Set (virtual learning & homeschooling)
